Exporting your files
Which file do I download, and what is in it?
Exports are free and unlimited on every plan. Download as often as you like, at any stage, and re-download after any change.
What you can download
- The whole project, as a zip. What most people want. One file per sheet, numbered in order, all the same size and all aligned. Unzip it and you have your cut files. In Stepped Layers it is Download All (.zip) at the foot of the studio, and the zip also holds the all-layers file, the picture and the cleaned mask it was traced from, two preview images, the project.json and a README listing every file with notes on importing into LightBurn.
- A single layer. Useful when you have recut one sheet because a piece broke, and you do not want to hunt through a folder. In Stepped Layers it is the download arrow on that layer's row in the layer list.
- All layers in one file. Every sheet stacked in a single drawing, each as its own named group. Good for looking at, not for cutting — your cutter would try to cut them all on top of each other. In Stepped Layers it is the combined link at the top of the layer list.
In Stepped Layers the downloads wait while the studio is working on the project. A build rewrites the cut files one sheet at a time, so Download All (.zip), the download arrows and combined are greyed out until it has finished, and the files you then get are all from the new build.
What is in an SVG
Plain closed outlines at real-world size, and nothing else. No images, no text, no embedded pictures, nothing your cutter has to interpret. A millimetre in the file is a millimetre on the bed, so if your software offers to scale it on import, decline.
Getting the order right
The two studios number their sheets opposite ways round, so check which one the files came from.
- Stepped Layers numbers from the bottom up. Layer 1 is the back sheet, the backer everything else is glued onto, and its file ends
_layer_01_bottom.svg. The highest number is the top sheet, the face you look at, and its file ends_top.svg. Glue up in number order with layer 01 at the bottom. The layer list in the studio shows the top sheet first, but that only changes how the list reads, not the numbers. - Landscape Silhouette Layers numbers from the front back. Layer 1 is the front, nearest you; the highest number is the back.
Cut them in any order you like, but keep them in a stack in number order once cut, because after two sheets they start looking alike.
Questions
Do I lose my files if I cancel my plan?
No. Your projects stay in your account and every export keeps working — exporting never needed a plan.
Can I edit the SVGs before cutting?
Yes, in Inkscape or Illustrator or anything else. Just keep the shapes closed and do not rescale one sheet without rescaling all of them.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes. What you make and the files the studio produces are yours, and you may sell what you cut without paying us anything — see the terms. Pictures from the image model are also subject to that provider's terms.
Still stuck? Write to hello@mandalalayers.com — a person reads it, and a photograph of what came off your cutter helps more than a description.
